A short walk

Going from my house to Bed Supperclub is an interesting walk I reckon. It takes about 2 minutes and 37 seconds altogether, I pass by two exceptionally good restaurants, genuine with good tasting food. Really good actually.

Between the two restaurants there is a newly built hotel. A Boutique Hotel of course. All new hotels in Bangkok are Boutique. What part makes a hotel boutique? Does anyone know?

One of the restaurants is Vietnamese and whenever I go in there the lady who owns the place always order for me, plus that she tells me how good everybody thinks her food is and how many magazines have her listed as one of the top ten restuarants in town. I like it though, she is happy, a good cook and a former FBI agent. It is sort of like “Cheers”, where everybody knows your name.

The other good restaurant is Italian, where apparently, the old “mama” makes a new menu every day. It is a five-course menu with heavy, good tasting home-cooked, Italian slow food. Served with chilled Italian red wine, which quite often actually tastes good. I usually don’t like Italian Wine; I prefer Spanish, Chilean, South African or Californian. (You should really look up a vineyard named Bonny Doon, they make great wine – it is kind of near Santa Cruz and Watsonville which should not be too far from SF. My favorite is called “Big House Red”)

The Old “Mama” is quite old btw, probably in her 70’s, which makes the whole experience even more delightful.

Then there are a couple of Massage places, to which I’ve been a few times. They are quite serious, but not very good. At least they don’t do “special”. Then of course there is the obligatory 7-11.

Next to that convenient store is a terrible Thai restaurant that looks nice from the outside, but don’t be fooled! Food is better on the street outside the restaurant. Then you have three(!), no less, pool places/girly bars. I have not been inside one of them. I play pool for other reasons. Then you pass by some kind of Korean town. The restaurants are probably good, have not tried them, since I am not that much into dog stews. After the “little Korea place”, with only a few meters left to go, there is a terrible smell, always. It could be one of the reasons why I hardly ever go to Bed Supperclub – I am not sure though. There are probably other, stronger reasons for me not going there. But I don’t know.

It is funny what you pass by, just going for a 2:37 minutes walk, isn’t it? It would not happen in Karlskoga – where I am from originally (sort of originally) – not in Stockholm, maybe in New York or SF but definitely not in Madrid. I think that could be a reason why I enjoy Bangkok so much.

Mozzarella cheese

I went to the supermarket the other day to buy some Mozzarella cheese. I wanted the real kind, buffalo Mozzarella in bag – in liquid.

I could not find any so I asked one of the staff if they had any at all.

She started checking, very thoroughly, she read all the labels on the Cheddar cheeses, the Gouda, the Camembert (!!!) and then finally I said:

“Ok, never mind”

She kept saying:

“Just a moment please”
