My favourite pose to create peace inside is the most violent you can imagine: the Warrior.
Lately I have been inspired to include a warrior-theme in my yoga classes. Much thanks to two warriors; Arjuna (from my studies of the Bhagavad Gita) and Matt Damon (in Green Zone).
How can such a peaceful activity as yoga be full of warriors?
Because they embody qualities that we can make use of in our everyday life; bravery, strenght, focus, determination. A rightous warrior knows what is good and what is bad. His/her sward is sharp and precise, taking away only that which is no longer needed in life. Just like we need to do in our own lives.
By practicing physical Warrior poses we practice balance. We see much higher we can reach when our foundation is strong. And how much more stable we become when we focus. Just like a solid base, balance and focus make us feel better in real life.
In other words, yoga warriors make us feel at peace.
When are you a warrior?
